Fund the connecting.
Your gift pays for the finding, the calling, and the checking that gets a neighbor to help that already exists. Here's what that means, and where the money goes.
Where the money goes
We don't hand out food boxes. We find the one that's already there and get you to it.
Southern Utah has pantries, clinics, rent programs, and counselors. What it doesn't have enough of is someone whose job is to know all of them, check them, and connect a neighbor to the right one. That's us. Your donation pays for that person's time.
“Before spending charitable money or recreating a service, ask: does this resource already exist?”
What your gift pays for
Research and verification
Every entry in our directory was called, visited, or read closely. Hours, eligibility, and the things a website leaves out, like a building that moved two years ago.
Calling ahead
Before we send anyone anywhere, we confirm it's open and they qualify. Nobody should drive across town to a locked door.
Keeping it current
Places close, move, and change their hours. A directory is only useful if someone keeps checking it, month after month.
The handoff
Answering the message from someone who doesn't know where to start, and staying with them until they're through the right door.
The Nonprofit Roundtable
Why not just give to the food bank?
Please do. We're not trying to replace anyone. Southern Utah's nonprofits sit at one table with us to say what they do, what they're short on, and where the overlaps are, so nobody duplicates anybody. Before we spend a dollar we ask the same question every time.
“How can we support what already exists?”
- Every other Tuesday, 9am, at SwitchPoint
- Everyone says what they need
- The overlaps do the work
