Because Animals Matter

Because Animals Matter (BAM)

1 opportunity

  • Grant writing, IT and fundraiser coordination

Alongside hands-on animal work, BAM specifically asks for people with professional skills: grant writing, fundraiser coordination, and IT or website assistance. These are the jobs that keep a small rescue funded and visible, and they can often be done on your own schedule. Interested people complete the same volunteer form and note the skill they want to offer.

    Where:
Hurricane, UT (some work can be done remotely)
I'm interested — Grant writing, IT and fundraiser coordination with Because Animals Matter

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah

    Commitment:
At least one year; weekly digital contact plus monthly in-person events
    Where:

Desert Preservation Initiative

Desert Preservation Initiative (DPI)

1 opportunity

Beyond the field crew, DPI organises into six working groups and needs people with matching skills: project management to get landowner approval for removals, field operations to manage equipment, monitoring to revisit restored sites every three months, outreach to build community relationships and materials, fundraising and grant work, and finance for budgets. Some of this can be done remotely.

    Commitment:
    Ongoing; remote participation available
    Where:

2 opportunities

  • Board of Trustees and Board Committee Service

DOVE Center lists board and committee service among its volunteer possibilities, alongside public education. • Hospital Advocate Response Team (HART)

Hospital advocates go to St George Regional Hospital to sit with victims of rape, sexual assault and domestic violence, one to one, at the worst hour of their lives. It is a serious commitment: forty hours of UCASA advocacy training on top of DOVE's basic training, then being on call overnight or through the day several times each month.

    Commitment:
On-call for 12-24 hours, three or more times a month

Girls on the Run Southern Utah

2 opportunities

  • Project and skill-based volunteer

Give a professional skill on a project basis rather than a season: social media, graphic design, photography or videography. The council uses this help for programme promotion and to capture the season and 5K. Sign up through their volunteer interest form and they will match you to a project when one comes up.

    Commitment:
    Flexible, project by project
    Where:
Remote or in Washington and Iron counties
I'm interested — Project and skill-based volunteer with Girls on the Run Southern Utah
  • Volunteer Coach

Lead a team of girls through the Girls on the Run curriculum across a ten-week season, meeting twice a week for 90 minutes after school and finishing with the celebratory 5K. All training, curriculum and supplies are provided at no cost to you, and there is no lesson planning. The organisation is clear that you do not need to be a runner.

    Commitment:
10-week season, two 90-minute practices a week, late afternoon or early evening, plus the end-of-season 5K
    Where:
School sites across Washington and Iron counties
I'm interested — Volunteer Coach with Girls on the Run Southern Utah

Kindness In Motion

1 opportunity

  • Board Secretary

Kindness In Motion is looking for a Secretary to join our board. This is the person who keeps the memory of the organisation, taking the minutes at board meetings, keeping our records and filings in order, and making sure the decisions we make actually get written down and followed through. It suits someone organised and steady who would rather build the quiet foundation than stand at the front. You would be joining an all volunteer board that is genuinely trying to make Southern Utah easier to get help in, and your work would hold the whole thing together.

    Commitment:
Board meetings every two months, plus the record keeping in between
    Where:
St. George and Ivins, with remote work possible
I'm interested — Board Secretary with Kindness In Motion

Root for Kids

Root for Kids (formerly The Learning Center for Families)

1 opportunity

  • Join our Board

Root for Kids invites people to join its board of directors, governance work for an organisation running Early Head Start, Early Intervention and parent home-visiting programmes across four counties. It suits someone with professional or leadership experience who can give sustained strategic attention rather than occasional hours.

    Where:
    St. George
I'm interested — Join our Board with Root for Kids

Southwest Symphony

1 opportunity

  • Audition as an orchestral musician

The symphony invites musicians to audition to play with the orchestra, and runs a Young Artist Competition for emerging players. If you have kept up an instrument and want to play regularly in a full symphonic setting rather than on your own, this is the main route into orchestral playing in Washington County. Enquiries and audition arrangements go through the symphony office.

    Commitment:
    Concert season
    Where:
America First Performing Arts Center, 325 S. 700 E, St. George, UT 84770
I'm interested — Audition as an orchestral musician with Southwest Symphony

The Doctors' Volunteer Clinic of St. George

6 opportunities

  • Volunteer Dental Assistant

Work chairside with the volunteer dentists: assisting during treatment, sterilising instruments, preparing materials, taking x-rays and going through aftercare instructions with patients. It keeps the free dental clinic moving, which matters because dental appointments here are booked by phone and demand outstrips the hours available.

    Where:
1036 East Riverside Drive, St. George, UT 84790
I'm interested — Volunteer Dental Assistant with The Doctors' Volunteer Clinic of St. George
  • Volunteer Dental Provider

Licensed dentists, practising or retired, are needed for the clinic's dental service. Dental pain is one of the commonest reasons low-income patients end up in emergency rooms, and a volunteer dentist's session here means fillings, extractions and treatment for people who could not otherwise pay for any of it. Dental appointments are arranged by phone.

    Where:
1036 East Riverside Drive, St. George, UT 84790
I'm interested — Volunteer Dental Provider with The Doctors' Volunteer Clinic of St. George
  • Volunteer Healthcare Scribe

Scribes sit in on appointments in the medical or mental health clinics and document the encounter as it happens, so the provider can concentrate on the patient rather than the keyboard. It needs fast, accurate typing, at least sixty words a minute, and a reliable weekly presence over several months.

    Commitment:
Minimum one 3-hour shift weekly for four months
    Where:
1036 East Riverside Drive, St. George, UT 84790
I'm interested — Volunteer Healthcare Scribe with The Doctors' Volunteer Clinic of St. George
  • Volunteer Medical Provider

Practising and retired physicians and other licensed medical providers are needed to see patients in the clinic. These are people in Southern Utah with no insurance and little money, for whom this clinic is the only door open. The clinic runs entirely on donated professional time and delivers over 15,000 patient encounters a year on that basis.

    Where:
1036 East Riverside Drive, St. George, UT 84790
I'm interested — Volunteer Medical Provider with The Doctors' Volunteer Clinic of St. George
  • Volunteer Medical, Dental or Mental Health Provider

Practising and retired licensed providers give clinic sessions to patients who have no insurance and nowhere else affordable to go. Medical, dental and mental health providers are all welcomed, and separate application forms are posted for medical and dental clinicians. For a retired doctor or dentist in Washington County, this is a way to keep using a lifetime of skill.

    Where:
1036 East Riverside Drive, St. George, UT 84790
I'm interested — Volunteer Medical, Dental or Mental Health Provider with The Doctors' Volunteer Clinic of St. George
  • Volunteer Mental Health Provider

The clinic runs a mental health service alongside its medical and dental clinics, and needs licensed practising or retired mental health professionals to see patients. Counselling is otherwise far out of reach for uninsured people in Washington County, so donated clinical hours here fill a genuine gap. Applications are made directly by email to the clinic.

    Where:
1036 East Riverside Drive, St. George, UT 84790
I'm interested — Volunteer Mental Health Provider with The Doctors' Volunteer Clinic of St. George

Washington County Historical Society

2 opportunities

  • Sales manager for society publications

The society sells posters, documents, DVDs and other historical material, and needs someone organised to look after it. You would keep track of what is in stock and pack and ship orders out to buyers. It is a steady behind-the-scenes role that keeps a small volunteer-run society funded, and it suits anyone comfortable with inventory, record-keeping and getting parcels out on time.

I'm interested — Sales manager for society publications with Washington County Historical Society
  • Website technical consultant

The society is looking for one or more people with real technical know-how to act as consultants on its website. Useful experience includes web authoring tools, CSS, HTML and PHP. The site is a large public archive of county history, so the work directly keeps decades of research available to researchers, families and schools. Advisory rather than full-time, and you can contribute from anywhere.

    Commitment:
    Consultant basis
    Where:
    Remote / not stated
I'm interested — Website technical consultant with Washington County Historical Society

Western Sky Aviation Warbird Museum

1 opportunity

  • Mechanics, pilots and museum representatives

The museum keeps a fleet of historic warbirds airworthy and on display, and it is always looking for people willing to donate their time as mechanics, pilots or museum representatives to help maintain them. If you have aviation skills, or simply enjoy talking to visitors about these aircraft and the people who flew them, the museum would like to hear from you. Contact Jack Hunter directly.

    Commitment:
    Ongoing
    Where:
    St. George Regional Airport
I'm interested — Mechanics, pilots and museum representatives with Western Sky Aviation Warbird Museum

Youth Futures

1 opportunity

  • Teach a life skills class

Teach a life skills class to young people at Youth Futures, the practical knowledge a teenager leaving an unstable home has usually missed, such as budgeting, cooking, job readiness or tenancy basics. It suits someone with relevant professional or lived expertise who can prepare and deliver a session. Arrange through the Community Outreach Coordinator.

    Where:
Youth Futures shelters, including St. George
I'm interested — Teach a life skills class with Youth Futures
