    Checked: Call to confirm

A St. George clinic treating children and adults for autism and behavioral health needs. You call, they talk about what's going on, check your insurance, and set up an assessment before any treatment starts.

    Good to know

The one address covers three separate programs in different buildings (340, 342, 348), so check which number your appointment is in. Their site says plainly this is NOT an emergency service - call 911 or 988 in a crisis.

    Who it's for
Children through adults. They do NOT publish age ranges, income limits, a sliding scale, or which insurances they take - coverage is 'confirmed individually before care begins.' Assume you need insurance or the ability to pay, and ask on the first call.

    Good to know

Their office locator is a script-driven search box that doesn't render a St. George result, which is why the address and phone couldn't be confirmed from the source. This one genuinely needs a phone call before it goes back up.

    Checked: Call to confirm

A small monthly gathering for people who have lost someone to suicide. Led by other survivors rather than a therapist - you sit with people who understand, and you can talk or just listen. No cost, no sign-up.

    Good to know

First Thursday of each month, 6:30-8:00pm. This couldn't be confirmed from the group's own source - the details come from the county health department's published list. Veterans Services

10 resources

Benefits, healthcare, and support built for veterans and their families.

  • American Legion Lester Keate Post 90

    Checked: Verified

The local American Legion post for St. George. A place for veterans to find friendship and community, and its Honor Guard provides military funeral honors for veterans' families. It's a membership and community group, not a benefits office.

    Good to know

The California area code is the commander's personal cell, so it may go to voicemail. Email jerabv557@yahoo.com is the more reliable route. No meeting day, time or office hours published.

    Who it's for
Veterans and service members who meet American Legion membership rules. Funeral honors are arranged for families at no charge. If you need help with a VA claim, use a Veteran Service Officer instead.

  • DWS Accelerated Credentialing to Employment (ACE)

    Checked: Call to confirm

A state program that helps veterans and military families turn service experience into a civilian job. It can pay for a short course, a license or a certificate, and staff help with resumes and interview practice.

    Good to know

I COULD NOT CONFIRM THIS IS STILL ACTIVE. The live DWS veteran page describes four service tracks but never mentions ACE by name. The only page describing ACE sits on a staging subdomain, not the public site. Someone should phone the St. George DWS office and ask whether ACE funding is still being issued.

    Who it's for
Utah veterans, active-duty members, drilling Guard and Reserve, and spouses of those groups. At least one day of honorable service. No cost to the participant.

  • Quilts of Valor Foundation

    Checked: Verified

Volunteers across the country sew handmade quilts and award them to veterans and service members who were touched by war, as a thank-you and a comfort. It costs nothing, and anyone can nominate a veteran - including a family member or friend.

    Good to know

Quilts are awarded by local volunteer groups and nominations are worked in order received, so THERE CAN BE A LONG WAIT. Health and age can move someone up the list. Their contact page blocks automated reading - a person can open it in a normal browser and get the phone.

    Who it's for
Living veterans and service members from any branch, with an Honorable or General Discharge, who were 'touched by war' - served in combat or in harm's way, been wounded, cared for casualties, or given casualty assistance. Free. You nominate online.

  • Saint George Vet Center

    Checked: Verified

A quiet, private place to talk to a counselor about what you went through in the military - on your own, as a couple, or as a family. Free, confidential, and not a hospital or clinic setting. You do NOT have to be signed up with the VA to come here.

    Good to know

Mon-Fri 8:00am-4:30pm, occasional non-traditional hours. The local direct line is loaded by script on the VA page and doesn't appear in the text - the 877 number reaches a counselor any hour and can transfer you. They also run a MOBILE VET CENTER that visits the Smith's parking lot at 633 S Main Street, Cedar City.

    Who it's for
Veterans and service members who served in combat or a hostile area; did mortuary or emergency medical work during wartime; served in a presidential emergency declaration; EXPERIENCED MILITARY SEXUAL TRAUMA IN ANY ERA; or are using VA education benefits. Family members can also be seen. Free. No VA enrollment and no disability rating required.

    Good to know

Helps older or disabled wartime veterans and their widows apply for a VA pension called Aid & Attendance, which helps pay for in-home care or care in a facility. Everything is done by phone and email - there's no office to visit.

    Good to know

THEIR SITE DOES NOT SAY WHETHER THEY CHARGE A FEE. Ask about cost before signing anything. This area attracts predatory 'claim shark' companies - worth checking their agent on the VA's accreditation search. THE FREE STATE VETERAN SERVICE OFFICER CAN FILE THE EXACT SAME CLAIM AT NO CHARGE.

    Good to know

THE NAME HAS NOT CHANGED. Dixie State University became Utah Tech University, but Dixie Technical College is a SEPARATE institution and kept its name. The regional name change causes steady confusion and people assume this listing is out of date when it isn't. Email info@dixietech.edu

  • Deseret Industries - St. George

    Checked: Verified

A large thrift store where anyone can buy used clothing, furniture and household things cheaply, and drop off donations. Anyone is welcome to shop or donate, whatever your religion.

    Good to know

Store and donation hours Monday 9-6, Tuesday-Saturday 9-7, closed Sunday. Deseret Industries does NOT run a public voucher or free-goods program - free goods go through an LDS bishop, not the store counter.

    Who it's for
SHOPPING AND DONATING are open to everyone, no referral or paperwork. THE JOB TRAINING IS DIFFERENT: to become a DI associate and get the paid work training you need a referral from an LDS bishop. You don't have to be a Church member to be hired part-time, but the bishop's referral is still required.

  • Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah

    Checked: Verified

Habitat builds and fixes up affordable homes with families who help build them, then sells the home with a no-interest mortgage. They also run a ReStore selling donated furniture, appliances and building materials cheaply.

    Good to know

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: applications are only available JULY 1-31 EACH YEAR. Outside that window there is nothing to apply for. Selection happens roughly once a year and it can take more than a year from application to moving in. Apply online or pick up a form at the ReStore; completed applications to Community@habitatswu.org. ReStore donations Tue-Sat 10-5 at the back, with free pickup in Washington County.

    Who it's for
For the home program: earn between 30% and 80% of area median income, have lived or worked in Washington County for the past year, be able to legally own property (permanent residency is enough - citizenship is NOT required), show you can repay a 0% mortgage, and save a down payment. Good to know
